Temple of Boom

Temple of Boom is a platform shooter set in the arenas of an ancient temple. You jump between ledges, pick up weapons such as shotguns and rocket launchers, and try to outlast enemies alone, against a friend or together with one.

What happens on screen

Each round takes place in a single temple arena made of platforms and ledges. Enemies come at you from different heights, so the fight is as much about where you stand as about what you shoot.

Weapons lie around the arena. You walk over one and pick it up, and Poki names shotguns and rocket launchers among them. You can carry more than one and switch between them, which matters because each weapon behaves differently at close and long range.

The game has three ways to play. Alone, you face the arena by yourself. With a second person at the same keyboard, you can fight each other one-on-one or team up in co-op. Both players share one screen, so the controls are split across the keyboard.

Buttons and keys

Move Left and right arrows
Jump / double jump Up arrow, press twice in the air
Pick up a weapon Down arrow
Shoot Z
Switch weapon X
Two players P1: W jump, C shoot, V switch; move and pick up on the keys beside W. P2: arrows, K shoot, L switch

Worth trying in the first ten minutes

  • Learn the double jump before anything else. Pressing up a second time in the air is how you reach the higher ledges and get out of a crowd.
  • Pick up a second weapon early and practise the switch key, so you are not searching for X when an enemy is close.
  • Keep moving between platforms. Standing on one ledge makes you an easy target from above and below.
  • In two-player mode, agree on who uses which side of the keyboard before the round starts; the key layout is the hardest part of the first match.

Good match for

Players who like quick platform fights with a clear arena, and pairs who want to share one keyboard for a duel or a co-op round.

Weigh this first

  • Combat with guns and rockets is the whole game, which may not suit younger children.
  • Two players on one keyboard is cramped on a small laptop.
  • Poki shows ads around its games.
